Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation Inaugural Annual Small Grant Round Announcement

DNZRF has announced the successful applicants of the inaugural Small Research Grants.

The projects awarded funds, had a clear objective to have an immediate impact on the lives of New Zealanders living with diabetes and their whānau. 

Professor Jeremy Krebs, who chaired the selection panel, commended all 17 applicants and noted they were all of a high standard. The panel awarded three standout applicants a Small Research Grant to a total value of $84,667.  

Speaking on behalf of the panel, Professor Krebs said, "For the first year of the newly established Small Research Grant, it was encouraging to have a wide selection of applications for the panel to consider. We are looking forward to reading the outcomes of the three projects selected"

The successful applicants are:  

Dr Anna Serlachius, University of Auckland.  

Research title ‘Preparing for Implementation of the LIFT App to Support Rangatahi to Thrive with Diabetes in Aotearoa’. 

Dr Barbara Daly, University of Auckland.  

Research title ‘The management and health outcomes of people with type 2 diabetes in a large primary care organisation and self-management practices among Chinese people’. 

Dr Bible Sung Kyong Lee, Auckland University of Technology.  

Research title ‘“Why So Late?” Understanding High Diabetes Prevalence and Delayed Diagnosis Among South Asians in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland: A Social Epidemiology Study of Primary Care and Community Perspectives’.
